SURFRIDER
A SHARED MISSION FOR A HEALTHY OCEAN
We are proud to support the Surfrider Foundation, a non-governmental organization devoted to ocean conservancy and the preservation of our coastlines. Founded in 1984 by a handful of visionary surfers in Malibu, California, the Foundation has grown into a community of over one million supporters and members. Breitling's commitment to the protection of our oceans began in 1957 when Willy Breitling launched the first SuperOcean watch, introducing the beauty and fragility of the underwater world to a new generation of diving enthusiasts and establishing "Sea" as one of Breitling's three brand universes. Our partnership with Surfrider allows us to reinforce our role as stewards of this environment and to inspire others to do the same.
THE SURFRIDER FOUNDATION
Surfrider's mission revolves around combating plastic pollution, preserving fragile coastal ecosystems, advocating for universal beach access, and protecting the health of our oceans. The organization is also dedicated to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion, allowing all people who love the ocean, waves and beaches to participate in its efforts. Since 2006, the Foundation has won more than 800 campaigns that have resulted in significant coastal protection victories. These successes range from high-profile legislative changes and long-term advocacy to water quality testing and community outreach.
OUR PARTNERSHIP
Plastic waste is a major contributor to ocean pollution, and both Breitling and Surfrider are committed to addressing this issue. Surfrider has been at the forefront of reducing plastic waste internationally with initiatives that have led to significant changes in legislation, including the European Directive that banned a wide range of single-use plastics in the EU. Our support will continue to help the Foundation in its crucial efforts to reduce the harmful effects of plastic pollution on marine ecosystems. By 2025, Breitling aims to eliminate plastic waste from its global operations. We'll also be rolling up our sleeves at the local level to participate in Surfrider beach cleanups around the world.
