To create the watch, Breitling’s then-owner Ernest Schneider, a licensed pilot, spent time with the squadron’s pilots to assess their needs and devised such enduring design codes as the raised rider tabs on the bezel to protect the crystal from bumps and scratches in the cockpit. The idea was a timepiece that would look great both on and off duty.
